Pickhill Money Hill
Also known as, or recorded in historical
documents as; Picks Hill
In the civil parish of Pickhill.
In the historic county of Yorkshire North Riding (Modern Authority of North Yorkshire, 1974 county of North Yorkshire).
The remains of a C12 motte and bailey castle built during the reign of Henry I. It has been cut through by the railway. The surviving motte. squarish in shape, is about 105 to 130ft east to west and about 110ft north to south and some 13ft high. It is surrounded by a moat some 60ft wide. The mutilated bailey lies to the west. 'Excavated' in 1851 in search of treasure.
This site has been described as a;
Timber Castle.
