Killerby Castle
Also known as, or recorded in historical
documents as; Kilwardby; Kilwardeby; Killarby
In the civil parish of Killerby.
In the historic county of Yorkshire North Riding (Modern Authority of North Yorkshire, 1974 county of North Yorkshire).
Remains of stone castle licence to crenellate granted to Brian fitz Alan (III) in 1291. The Castle which stood here, was in ruins in Leland's time, who wrote " Killarby Castil Ruine in Ripaciter Swalae, about a 2 mile south from Keterick." Site of an earlier motte and bailey.
This site has been described as a;
Masonry Castle
Timber Castle.
The confidence
that this site is a medieval fortification or palace is Possible.
Uncertain remains.
A Royal licence
to crenellate was
granted in 1291 Sept 20.
