Keld Tute Hill

In the civil parish of Muker.
In the historic county of Yorkshire North Riding (Modern Authority of North Yorkshire, 1974 county of North Yorkshire).

Site of a possible motte consisting of a 20m square top promontory, with a shallow ditch up to 12m wide. It is currently overlain by a modern enclosure. Area of lead mining and many spoil tips in area. Jackson has been unable to find the site. However the map reference given in PastScape is NY898011 which does not appear to be the manorial centre but is about 500m from village and church and overlooks crossing of river. The map reference I give is a site marked Tute Hill on the 1857 OS map which does match the site description and could also be a manorial centre as it is in village.

This site has been described as a;
Timber Castle.
The confidence that this site is a medieval fortification or palace is Possible.
Cropmarks/slight earthworks remains.

The Ordnance Survey Map Grid Reference is NY893011
