Saighton Grange

Also known as, or recorded in historical documents as; Salghton

In the civil parish of Saighton.
In the historic county of Cheshire (Modern Authority of Cheshire, 1974 county of Cheshire).

Of the original fabric only a square gatehouse remains dated 1490; it is not of any military character. Residential grange of the abbots of Chester for which a licence to crenellate was obtained in 1399 and repeated in 1410, but probably not acted upon on either occasion.

This site has been described as a;
Fortified Manor House.
The confidence that this site is a medieval fortification or palace is Possible.
Masonry ruins/remnants remains.

A Royal licence to crenellate was granted in 1399 March 18.

A Confirmation licence to crenellate was granted in 1410 Feb 5.


This site is a Grade 1 listed building protected by law*. (Images of England number 55368)
