Grange Castle

Also known as, or recorded in historical documents as; Castlehow; Diddersley Grange; Didderston Grange

In the civil parish of Melsonby.
In the historic county of Yorkshire North Riding (Modern Authority of North Yorkshire, 1974 county of North Yorkshire).

Grange Castle, also known as Didderston Grange. Remains of Cistercian Grange (1226-7 to 1537) represented by a moated rectangular earthwork. Grange of Jervaulx Abbey. Has been called a castle but rejected by Jackson. Dry moats. Inner island raised, with stone buildings under turf. No mention of fortifications other than dry moats in Jean le Patourel.

This site is rejected as a medieval fortification or palace.
