Cropton, T'Hall Garth

In the civil parish of Cropton.
In the historic county of Yorkshire North Riding (Modern Authority of North Yorkshire, 1974 county of North Yorkshire).

The remains of a motte and bailey castle, mentioned in 1334, but ruinous by 1349. Within the bailey are foundations of domestic buildings and a great hall of circa 1290 -95. The motte is 20ft high and 50yds in diameter with a triangular bailey covering some three acres. There is also a medieval trackway and a pond.
