Allerton Mauleverer

Also known as, or recorded in historical documents as; Allerton Park; Allerton Castle

In the civil parish of Allerton Mauleverer With Hopperton.
In the historic county of Yorkshire West Riding (Modern Authority of North Yorkshire, 1974 county of North Yorkshire).

Allerton Castle is a large C19 country house incorporating an earlier C18 house. It is however in a medieval park and there presumably was a medieval house of some status in the area. There was a village, now lost, and one of the fish ponds in the park (SE41525844) appears to have developed from a square moated site. Richard Mauleverer founded St Martin's Priory c.1100 in the area. It seems entirely possible that, in this high status landscape, that the medieval house of the Mauleverer's could have been fortified.

This site has been described as a;
Fortified Manor House.
The confidence that this site is a medieval fortification or palace is Questionable.
Nothing visible remains.
