Stoke Golding; The Moats

In the civil parish of Stoke Golding.
In the historic county of Leicestershire (Modern Authority of Leicestershire, 1974 county of Leicestershire).

Site alternatively described as 'Fortified Manor' , 'tumulus' or 'Fish pond', or was possibly all three. PastScape record a hlaew (Anglo-Saxon burial mound) at SP39699703 and a medieval farmstead at SP39739694. The medieval farmstead may well represent the manorial centre, but since 'The Moats' seem to be fishponds and don't represent a coherant defensive scheme the chance this was fortified is small.

This site has been described as a;
Fortified Manor House.
The confidence that this site is a medieval fortification or palace is Questionable.
Cropmarks/slight earthworks remains.

This site is a scheduled monument protected by law.
