Wisbech Castle
Also known as, or recorded in historical
documents as; Wisbeach; Wisbich
In the civil parish of Wisbech.
In the historic county of Cambridgeshire (Modern Authority of Cambridgeshire, 1974 county of Cambridgeshire).
No remains of Castle, built either circa 1070 or 1086. It is not known when it became disused. The site of the castle was finally cleared in 1794. Georgian Manor on Site. Motte and bailey plan can be traced in road pattern. Possible had square keep. Came into the hands of the bishop of Ely in C12. In active use throughout the middle ages, rebuilt c. 1480.
