In the historic county of Leicestershire (Modern Authority of Leicestershire, 1974 county of Leicestershire).

Motte. King writes is shapeless mound and rejects it as a castle. Creighton suggests may be motte close to watermill. Area called 'Castle Close' in C18. Its position would be similar to many mottes, close to a church and a river crossing, but the maintainance of watermills can involve producing spoil or making earthworks and the associated flooding can erode earthworks.
