Folkestone Castle Yard

In the civil parish of Folkestone.
In the historic county of Kent (Modern Authority of Kent, 1974 county of Kent).

Possible castle in town reported by Leland. He names this 'Castle Yard' but mainly describes it as nunnery although with a strong wall (containing large long British -ie Roman, bricks) and ditch. A castle at Folkestone is also mentioned in a charter of c.1137, though this may be Ceasars Camp. It may be that the 'castle' in the town was Roman, whilst Ceasar's Camp, on the hill, is actually Norman. Probably lost to coastal ersion.

This site has been described as a;
Masonry Castle.
The confidence that this site is a medieval fortification or palace is Possible.
Nothing visible remains.
