Hall Wood, Fairseat

In the civil parish of Stansted.
In the historic county of Kent (Modern Authority of Kent, 1974 county of Kent).

Earthwork remains of enclosed settlement with bailey to the west. Excavation in 1962 uncovered the remains of a lookout tower, destroyed in the mid C13, a windmill, an oven and a possible bloomery. Pottery dating from the early to mid C12 was also found. Possibly adulterine motte and bailey built from a barrow. An apparently 'single handed' excavation by J E L Caiger, a report was in preperation 20 years later but does not appear to have published.

This site has been described as a;
Timber Castle.
The confidence that this site is a medieval fortification or palace is Possible.
