Eardisley; The Camp

In the civil parish of Eardisley.
In the historic county of Herefordshire (Modern Authority of Herefordshire, 1974 county of Hereford and Worcester).

Salter writes circular enclosure of uncertain date has been considered as castle site but now assessed as a henge. SMR record reads "Earthwork called the camp. Nearly 2.5 miles NW of the church. Consists of circular enclosure 46yds diam, surrounded by a dry ditch with traces of outer bank to the S half. Reassessment of this site from recent aerial photographs suggests it is a henge." PastScape record reads "The earthwork remains of a circular enclosure of date known as The Camp. The site is defined by a single ditch with an outer bank. The enclosed area is circa 40m in diameter. It is included by Harding and Lee in their henge gazetteer, although they argue that it is unlikely to be a henge, and suggest a Medieval date, as do other sources." Not a castle and not a henge. Is on springline and is probably a farmstead of some sort in my view.

This site has been described as a;
Timber Castle.
This site is rejected as a medieval fortification or palace.
