Birtley Earthworks, Lingen

Also known as, or recorded in historical documents as; Newton

In the civil parish of Lingen.
In the historic county of Herefordshire (Modern Authority of Herefordshire, 1974 county of Hereford and Worcester).

Scarped mound and pools could be remains of strong house or castle. This appears to be recorded as a deserted medieval village, post medieval water filled clay pits and an ambigous cross valley dyke in the Herefordshire SMR. Almost certainly clay works but could be small manorial centre.

This site has been described as a;
Timber Castle.
The confidence that this site is a medieval fortification or palace is Questionable.
Earthworks remains.
