Ashperton Castle

Also known as, or recorded in historical documents as; Asperton

In the civil parish of Ashperton.
In the historic county of Herefordshire (Modern Authority of Herefordshire, 1974 county of Hereford and Worcester).

Ashperton Castle. William de Grandison had Licence to crenellate his house within a park at Ashperton in 1292. The site is marked by a moated island with a roughly rectangular enclosure to the east, possibly a bailey. There are remains of a fish pond. The stonework was removed from the site in the late C18.

This site has been described as a;
Fortified Manor House.
The confidence that this site is a medieval fortification or palace is Certain.
Earthworks remains.

A Royal licence to crenellate was granted in 1292 May 3.

This site is a scheduled monument protected by law.
