Place Wood Motte, Southwick and Widley

In the civil parish of Southwick and Widley.
In the historic county of Hampshire (Modern Authority of Hampshire, 1974 county of Hampshire).

Medieval ringwork and bailey located within Place Wood. The ringwork comprises a roughly circular earthwork platform enclosed by a bank and outer ditch. The bailey abuts it to the east and is also enclosed by a bank and outer ditch. The site is thought to date to the C11 or C12.

This site has been described as a;
Timber Castle.
The confidence that this site is a medieval fortification or palace is Certain.
Earthworks remains.

This site is a scheduled monument protected by law.
