Haresfield Mount

In the civil parish of Haresfield.
In the historic county of Gloucestershire (Modern Authority of Gloucestershire, 1974 county of Gloucestershire).

Moated site, known as The Mount, set on low-lying ground in the Severn Vale. A square moat encloses an island measuring approximately 50m by 48m. The motte at the centre now only stands 1.5m high but was previously recorded as 10ft high. The moat is 10 to 16m wide and 3-4m deep. The moat is believed to be the site of the manor house of Haresfield which was still standing in 1680. The site lies close to the village church of St Peter's and the large number of footpaths converging on this area suggests the importance of the monument in the medieval period.

The confidence that this site is a medieval fortification or palace is Certain.

This site is a scheduled monument protected by law.
