Berden; The Crump

Also known as, or recorded in historical documents as; Stock Farm, Stock's Farm

In the civil parish of Berden.
In the historic county of Essex (Modern Authority of Essex, 1974 county of Essex).

Medieval ringwork, excavations have recovered C12 pottery and metalwork including horseshoes and nails. 54.5m overall in diameter, consisting of a bank and ditch, the eastern part of the ditch part-filled in and consequently dry. Western half still water-filled.

This site has been described as a;
Timber Castle.
The confidence that this site is a medieval fortification or palace is Certain.
Earthworks remains.

This site is a scheduled monument protected by law.
