Plumberow Mount, Hockley

In the civil parish of Hockley.
In the historic county of Essex (Modern Authority of Essex, 1974 county of Essex).

Probable burial mound of uncertain date. Excavation in 1913 revealed a Roman coin and pottery, some Saxon pottery possibly representing a secondary burial. The mound is 4m high, and oval in plan with diameters of 23m by 18m. The top is flattened representing the former position of a summerhouse. Suggested by King as a motte, probably made out of an earlier tumulus, this is not in King's 'possible' list and he seemly had no doubt about it being used as a motte.
