Swine Castle Hill

Also known as, or recorded in historical documents as; Bransholm; Brancholme; Bransholme; le Hermitage in Braunceholm

In the civil parish of Wawne.
In the historic county of Yorkshire East Riding (Modern Authority of East Riding of Yorkshire, 1974 county of Humberside).

Remains of probable C12 motte and bailey castle surviving as shapeless earthwork with ditch. Brick foundations of a probable C17 house uncovered in 1918. Salter writes "In 1353 John de Sutton was fined for crenellating without Licence" and implies that these foundations may relate to a house resulting from this licence. Possibly reported C17 house had older roots.

This site has been described as a;
Fortified Manor House
Timber Castle.
The confidence that this site is a medieval fortification or palace is Possible.
Earthworks remains.
