Newsholme, Wressle

In the civil parish of Wressle.
In the historic county of Yorkshire East Riding (Modern Authority of East Riding of Yorkshire, 1974 county of Humberside).

PastScape record reads "Cropmark of a ringwork measuring 50m in diameter, defined by a broad ditch 6 to 7m wide with two entrances and an associated bailey to the south east. Probably early Medieval in date.[1066-1199]" This site would control a main route through a marshy area but there are several better sites nearby. To me it's location is consistent with a stock enclosure in an area prone to flooding, but not likely for the siting of a house of any sort.

This site has been described as a;
Timber Castle.
The confidence that this site is a medieval fortification or palace is Questionable.
Cropmarks/slight earthworks remains.
