Cowick, Kings Manor

Also known as, or recorded in historical documents as; Manor Hill, Snaith and Cowick

In the civil parish of Snaith and Cowick.
In the historic county of Yorkshire West Riding (Modern Authority of East Riding of Yorkshire, 1974 county of Humberside).

Medieval moat, 45m south of Little London. Site survives as an earthwork, dredged in 1976, when remains of a wooden bridge were found, along with pottery, leatherwork, decorated floor tiles and animal bones. The moat was dug around an existing manorial complex in about 1320. The original buildings may have been a royal hunting lodge. A documentary source of 1373-4 refers to a hall, kitchen, chambers, larder, pantry and stable. Medieval manor believed to have stood on the site, although no structural remains are now visible. Emery writes the wide ditch was dug in 1323, one of only 3 royal manors in the North of England.
