Castle Tower, Little Missenden

In the civil parish of Little Missenden.
In the historic county of Buckinghamshire (Modern Authority of Buckinghamshire, 1974 county of Buckinghamshire).

Medieval motte and bailey surviving as an earthwork. Field investigations in 1971 found the motte to have a diameter of 27m and an average height of 1.7m. The bailey was situated to the south. It was oval in plan, measured 35m north-south by 30m east-west and enclosed by a bank between 12m to 18m wide and up to 1.2m in height. There were traces of an outer ditch around the northeast side of both the motte and bailey. No entrance or causeway was visible.

This site has been described as a;
Timber Castle.
The confidence that this site is a medieval fortification or palace is Certain.
Cropmarks/slight earthworks remains.

This site is a scheduled monument protected by law.
