Lambton Hall, Bournmoor

In the civil parish of Bournmoor.
In the historic county of Durham; County Palatinate of (Modern Authority of Durham, 1974 county of County Durham).

C16 Lambton Hall, seat of the Lambtons, was demolished prior to 1787. The remains were retrieved from a state of ruin and converted into two cottages. Parts of the walls and one each of the cross-shaped quatrefoil openings on the front are ancient. The cottages referred to are probably Brewery Cottages which probably represent only the brewery of the Hall, which was an H-shaped building immediately to the south. Salter appears to include this site in his book because of it association with Lambton Castle, a later seat of the Lambton Family, on the other side of the River Wear, which dates from C18 (on the site of C16 Harrington Hall). He describes no fortification and none is suggested elsewhere.

This site has been described as a;
Fortified Manor House.
This site is rejected as a medieval fortification or palace.
