Detailed book of Shropshire vernacular building excluding castles and, therefore, not of much interest. However, does give a detailed description of some fortified sites like Charlton House in Shropshire. The first chapter is called defensive house and gives information on Shropshire longhouse. These have a superficial resemblance to the later northern bastles but I have not included these in my listings as no other author considers these defensive.
