An old text, dating back to 1928, by a noted scholar of the time. This book is much admired by some but I have to say I find it dated, limited and the writing style somewhat patronising. I only really include it in this bibliography for it's historic interest as a early 20th century example of a gazetteer of castles and because it was a text from which later, better gazetteers drew some inspiration.
