11 Abinger The motte remains of an early wooden moated Norman motte and bailey castle dating from about 1100. Private, north-east of the church. TQ 114460
5 Barley Pound Only earthworks remain of a Norman castle which originally consisted of a stone keep and 8 foot thick walls. It was captured in 1147. Open, near Bentley. SU 797468
8 Godshill Only traces of a motte built in the middle of the 12th Century remain. It is possibly a siege castle dating from 1147. Open, off the A338 near Fordingbridge. SU 166162
16 Horsham Earthworks are visible of this 12th century fortification at Chennells Brook Farm which was probably only occupied until the middle of the century. One mile north of Horsham. TQ 188333
14 Midhurst Only an outline of the stone foundations, rebuilt in 1913, remain of the 12th century castle. SU 889214
3 Powderham Small motte and some foundations. Possibly a siege castle dating from 1147 used to capture Barley Pound Castle. SU 803469
15 Pulborough A tree covered motte can be seen west of the church. TQ 037189
7 Rowlands Castle There are signs of 10 foot thick stone walls from a Norman motte & bailey castle. The ruins have been mainly destroyed by the railway line. There are faint remains of another earth & timber castle a mile to the north. Private.  SU 733105
