21 Aslockton The remains of a motte and bailey castle with a moat and a 16 foot high mound. SK 744402
19 Barrow Only the motte of this Norman castle remains in Barrow town centre.  
22 Bothamsall Only the mound which dates back to the 11th or 12th Century remains. SK 671732
30 Duffield A large mound, known as Castle Hill, is all that remains of a large castle with keep walls 16 feet thick. It was destroyed in about 1266. National Trust. SK 344441
23 Egmarton Only the motte remains in village near the church. SK 735690
9 Folkingham Little remains of this moated castle apart from some earthworks. The site is now occupied by the prison, the House of Correction, which was erected in 1808. TF 074335
24 Greasley Fortified in 1341, it consisted of towers joined together by curtain walls, surrounded by a moat. The remains are now incorporated into later farm buildings. SK 490470
4 Hallaton Only earthwork remain of this12th century castle. SP 780967
27 Hathersage There are damaged remains of a motte and bailey overlooking the village centre. It can be seen from Church Bank which runs through the site. SK 234819
26 Laxton The medieval building has vanished, but the earthworks and motte can be seen. SK 720676
5 Mountsorrel It was built in 1080 and destroyed in 1217. All that remains today is the imposing granite crag, Castle Hill, on which it stood above the village. It can be reached by a steep path. SK 578148
11 Rochford Tower (Kyme Tower) The remains of a 15th century brick-built tower-house. It is rectangular, with four floors and turrets projecting from the top and uses brick, rather than stone, for its decorative features. There are still traces of wall paintings in one room. Private TF 351444
20 Thornton Abbey The barbican gatehouse, constructed during the late 13th and 14th centuries, is the largest in the country. It is surrounded on three sides by a moat and the fourth side by the river. The Abbey was founded in 1139. TA 115189
15 Tower on the Moor The 60-foot tower was built in the 14th century as part of a hunting lodge probably by the builder of Tattershall Castle. TF 211640
